"Sounds
real tight, all the styles are great. I like the things
you've molded after the HornHeads. The perfect horn section
live or in the studio."

"Hi
Guys, Your stuff sounds great. That horn break on "Get
Connected" is killin' and very effective out of the
synth stuff. Thanks for sharing and good luck with your
writing!"

"Being
a trumpet player myself I tend to be extra critical of
horn sections...especially trumpet players. Nothing bores
me more than technically gifted musicians with nothing
to say (sorry Wynton). So when I first saw the Brass Connection
online I was expecting more of the same from some white
dudes.
ALL
I CAN SAY IS WOW! You cats got it going on! You have technique
and you speak volumes as manifested in that funky syncopated
ditty "Get Connected!" I think I must have replayed
it ten times in a row . I loved it sooo much! It brought
back memories of Seawind's horn section.
There's
some new horns in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and they go
by the name "The Brass Connection." I would
hire you cats any day of the week! You 3 cats remind of
the Breckers Brothers with a bone!
Ken
McGill, the fearless leader and founder of the group plays
a solid lead trumpet. He showcases his lyrical solo stylings
on a beautifully arranged brass a capello ballad, "Bewitched."
The bone/sax accompaniment leaves you unaware that its
just the 3 horns interpreting this classic ballad. That's
a great sign of a good horn section!
One
reason I love this horn section is the presence of the
saxophonist, Clay Pritchard. Rumors of this child prodigy
at North Texas State got back to Los Angeles and I had
to pull some of my not so old North Texas State One o'clock
Jazz Lab CD's. It was rumored Clay was the 2nd coming
of Michael Brecker. If you closed your eyes and listened
to the track of "She's Out of My Life" made
popular by Michael Jackson, you would swear Brecker was
at the end of your ear hole! This brother can play!!!
What a great interpretation.
Like
most great single named musicians, its just implied that
they transcend musical greatness. The trombonist merely
goes by the name Victor. Don't know his last name and
don't need to know. All I know that he's more than a great
musician. I get the feeling that Victor is the glue that
keeps things together. He definitely completes the trio
of horns by holding down the bottom of the 3 part harmonies
in a fashion filled with superlatives. Just listen to
the way he fills out the chords in the soli work on the
track "Fry Street Strut." Victor lays the bottom
down! you da man!
If
I ever get the opportunity to hear these cats live my
ear hole will be left satisfied. I will definitely "Get
Connected" with the BRASS CONNECTION. You definitely
reminiscent of horn sections of yore with a fresh twist!
Keep up the good work guys."
